The South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) invited us to run a workshop for their Aquatic Physiotherapy Group in Johannesburg, South Africa in March 2024.
Unlike the Australian courses that we have run, we had the opportunity to present for four days, which was a fabulous learning experience for participants.
Unlike the Australian courses that we have run, we had the opportunity to present for four days, which was a fabulous learning experience for participants.
On the first day we introduced participants to the Feldenkrais Method which included being guided through two Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons and practicing some handling techniques.
On Day 2 we discussed the principles of our approach (Neuroaquatics) and reviewed current research, then spent the rest of that day and the next in the pool learning and practicing the approach, handling techniques and movement strategies.
On day 4 we had the opportunity to work with some of the physiotherapists in water with their own clients in water, which enabled participants to gain a much deeper understanding of the approach. We would love to do this within our courses in Australia.
Many thanks to Gillian Adams for her tireless efforts to get us over to South Africa. It was an amazing experience.
