Feldenkrais
The Feldenkrais Method® is a movement based, exploratory learning system that enhances your ability to move and remain active in life. Through hands on facilitation (Functional Integration®) and verbally guided group lessons (Awareness Through Movement) (ATM) classes), individuals gain an insight into the quality of their movements, the connection between different body parts and how the whole body can move with greater ease and efficiency.
Dr Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) was an Israeli physicist trained in mechanical and electrical engineering. He was also was a martial artist and after suffering a knee injury, began to study movement in relationship to human development, function, and education. The Feldenkrais Method® was the culmination of his work in this area.
“The aim is a body that is organised to move with minimum effort and maximum efficiency, not through muscular strength but increased consciousness of how it works”
Moshe Feldenkrais.
“Through awareness we can learn to move with astonishing lightness and freedom – at almost any age – and thereby improve our living circumstances, not only physically…. but emotionally, intellectually and spiritually”
Moshe Feldenkrais.
